How to check an Indian company's directors and filings
Look the company up on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs portal (MCA21). Its master data shows its status, capital and directors, each with a director identification number (DIN); its filed documents can be viewed for a small fee.
- Search the company's name or CIN and open its master data.
- Note each director's DIN, and look it up to see their other companies.
- View the public documents: annual returns, financial statements, charges.
- Check the insolvency regulator's (IBBI) records and NCLT orders.
- Search eCourts by the company's name for cases in district and high courts.
What the portal leaves out: who stands behind shareholders that are companies or trusts, and what the press reports.
Or send the company's name and city to LightRay. In about 12 minutes: who owns it, who runs it, what it has filed, any court matters and its press. First three free.
